2001, the safety checks in criminal law were improved but not those in immigration or family law ???!!! Meanwhile of course several women in Victoria and many worldwide were fruitlessly battling through the courts – which still insist Applicants must “prove” corruption. (Presumably it has something to do with privatisation of the police force – or maybe the police are all too busy sitting around checking speed limits. Whatever the reason, the assumption throughout the s! ystem is that victims will be able to resolve the issues if they are telling the truth. What a sick joke! Particularly considering the naivete with which the media, lawyers, judges and so on are sucked in by the blatant lying of scientists who set out to discredit victims Even minimal research – or even moderate THINKING would show who is lying and who isn’t! This is not seen as evidence of course that there is anything wrong with experts’ claims.

   There are many examples on the Internet that PREDICTABLY, corruption of DNA tests, together with collusion is a global problem. DNA tests sent to Australia by desperate victims from overseas are falsified here, as well as homegrown junk tests. Anonymous testing does not overcome problems of collusion. With computerisation eg. as used in police criminal databases DNA prints of anyone are more identifiable than even a name. The probability is there is already a database ! record somewhere of “crooked” tests.

   Nowhere is it more evident that “one bad apple rots the whole barrel” than in the DNA testing industry and unless scientists themselves move quickly to not only stop this rot but to clean out the bad apples, DNA as evidence will be totally, irretrievably discredited.

  The first step is for judges, lawyers, the police, the media and thus the general public to face up to the fact that fraud happens and is happening. The most common method of corrupting tests is to pay an insider to switch the samples. Scientists have known of the inadequacies – and therefore the possibility - since the inception of the “worldwide” safety checks but didn’t see any need to improve them !!!!!?????

  There needs to be an urgent change in attitude towards forensic science of any kind that can be falsified so easily, and not just by police. A recent FBI report available via the web indicated just how widespread lack of accountability, falsification, errors and so on are in forensic institutes – including sending people to death row unjustly. Especially there needs to be more questioning of ALL expert evidence – but especially science. Our very own skeleton in the cupboard, the Lindy Chamberlain debacle is a prime example of science created injustice.

  Scientists MUST be made more accountable. Self-regulation is clearly a recipe for disaster. Currently the Health Commission say fraudulent DNA tests are not a health issue, the Police say they are not a crime, and MPs stick their head in the sand, bludging on taxpayers while they wait for their pension – regardless of the horrendous financial, psychological and social destruction of people’s lives through failing over such a very long period of time to address what are very obvious issues of fraud.

  THE MEDIA is very guilty of imbalanced, unresearched reporting – sucked in by blatantly lying scientists and belittling the women and children involved – regardless of the suffering they have added to with their false reports and feeble investigations. Many years ago now a highly respected journalist actually predicted “education and qualifications” would destroy “gut feeling, intuition and therefore any real perception” among journalists. He must have been clairvoyant!!!!!!! (as defined in Webster’s)

  SAFETY PROCEDURES need to be urgently upgraded to include the signature of ALL parties, or their representatives. It should be mandatory that samples under question – for no matter how long – should be retained and available for subpoena

  SCIENTISTS need to react very differently to claims of falsification if the industry is to regain and retain any credibility. Eg. Currently when victims claim that a test result has gone wrong, scientists support the criminals, not the victims. The mystique of science ensures they are believed regardless of any other evidence.

The victim will then try to get further testing done only to end up paying for further false tests and then trying secrecy - which of course does not help.

If one buys a defective product, or a service is unsatisfactory usually one complains to the supplier and if that same supplier provides a satisfactory replacement that's the end of it. Unless the faulty item or service has caused actual injury or serious trauma. Certainly one would not expect to successfully sue a supplier who fixed the problem immediately one complained.

It is the REACTION throughout the industry to claims of fraud which confirms just how aware scientists are of corruption, how ignorant and naive governments, media, lawyers etc worldwide are, and how unwilling anyone, especially scientists, are to stop it regardless of the horrendous consequences - particularly to the children concerned.
