A trip through this website will show you why people are
attracted to this wonderful part of Victoria. You will find out
about the nearby National Park, forests, gullies, falls and historic
tramways plus other natural and man made attractions. You will also
learn some local history, and find out what occupies the locals. How
about the various and vastly different accommodation options from
which you can choose? Accommodation ranges from bush camping to
luxury accommodation. |
|
You can check the wildlife, the walks, and even get some
tips on how to catch that elusive trout. This website was created
by, and is maintained by Murrindindi Shire based business, the
Cucumber Network. The representative community and visitor
interest organisation, Yea Tourism Association helped promote input
for the development of "Yea on the Net." Sister sites in
the Upper Goulburn are linked via "Commerce-Trades" and
via "Fishfacts" from the fishing information pages.
WHERE IS YEA??
|
|
Located just north of Australia's Great Dividing Range, the township of Yea is
nestled in a beautiful valley at the meeting of the Yea and Goulburn Rivers. With a
population of around 1,100, Yea is just 105 Km's north-east of Melbourne, the State
Capital of Victoria. Access to Yea can be from the southern corridor or from the west
after exiting the Hume Freeway.
Yea is also a popular stop over and
rest stop location for year-round visitors who in winter are heading into the
snow fields, or to Lake Eildon in the summertime.

MORE ABOUT YEA
The town
itself boasts one of the most picturesque main streets in the whole Upper Goulburn region.
A wide plantation, well planted with magnificent Claret Ash trees , is an ideal place to
picnic or commence a heritage walk around the town. The trees herald the seasonal changes,
from vivid green in spring - shearing time, to vibrant red, yellow and gold in autumn -
lambing. Life moves at a more relaxed pace here and this is reflected by the friendly
welcome that visitors receive from the locals.
THE LOCALS
Yea is
the focus of a local farming community. Fine wool and beef and dairy cattle are the main
industries, but many alternative farming products are making a name for themselves. Free
range poultry, locally made cheese, trout and berry farms, emus, vineyards, honey and a
lanolin based skincare range are all to be found in the local area. All these delights can
be purchased whether in the town or at the farm gate.
WHEN YOU VISIT
Visitors to the
region are invited to obtain a copy the seasonal publication "Murrindindi
Magic". This is produced by the Standard Newspaper, for Murrindindi Regional Tourism
Association, and features information, maps and a calendar of events in Murrindindi Shire.
Copies are available free of charge from Visitor Information Centres, and from many retail
shops throughout the Shire.
